In 2001 Halifax recognised May 12th as their Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, click here for their Counci's motion.
In 2003 FM-CFS Canada asked for and received recognition of May 12th as the FM & CFS Awareness Day in Ottawa, and received a plaque from the Mayor of Ottawa, Bob Chiarelli. Our many thanks to him. A press conference was held at City Hall, with local support groups in attendance and taking turns at the podium. Subsequent interviews were held with local media.
If your city has recognised May 12th, we'd love to hear from you and we'd include your city in this listing. We'd be happy to display your recognition notice here on our site, just contact us. A sample letter to send to your Mayor is provided below.

Dear Mayor
We're writing to you to ask only for moral support for our cause.
'Fibromyalgia' (FM) and 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome' (CFS) (which is also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), afflict about 5% of the population. The symptoms include chronic pain, chronic fatigue, a depressed immune system, and a cognitive impairment.
The reality of living with chronic pain and fatigue on a daily basis is that the families, friends and employers are affected by it too. It's a root cause to other social problems. Most of the million afflicted people are spread across Canada's eight million families - possibly one-in-ten families are affected. 15% of the afflicted are men and boys. The girls and women are usually afflicted in their child-bearing years, threatening Canada's Mothers. It is both a serious family and economic problem.
Unfortunately, it could happen to anyone. The cause is unknown, as is the cure. Even an effective treatment eludes us. There's no news yet to tell people to help them avoid the illnesses, and the news certainly isn't good when they get it.
For the first time a national coalition of organisations concerned with the illness is working together, to improve research, education, and treatment.
We welcome you and the City of ________ to join the hundreds of Mayors worldwide, but being among the first in Canada, to recognise May 12th as our city's Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day.
With visionary support from people like you we hope to fight this illness which affects so many of our families and harms our community. We're working hard to effect change.
Thank you,
